Big Apple
After one long year, I visited New York City aka Big Apple again. I came down on Tuesday night and stayed on 49th floor of a plush hotel right in the Times Square – the theatre district. It was an awesome experience and I owe a lot to my lady love, who made this possible. From the window I could see not only the ant-sized tourists crowding the time square area but also the interiors of top floor offices of the neighboring skyscrapers. Only if this building was overlooking the Hudson River on a rainy day; I would have loved sipping a cold coffee right at the window. Some day…some day that will happen too!
The next day I decided to meet up (for the first time) a family friend who happily signed as a co-signer/guarantor for my student loan. When I got into the subway, I could not help getting nostalgic about the whole place: New York. I have been here many times hence nothing here awes me anymore (nothing ever did, actually). But for reasons that I still don’t understand well, I feel nostalgic being in this city. I guess NYC has been part of my many great memories. I was smiling to myself while in the train remembering the Christmas night when the only thing I did whole night was to sit in one train and travel back and forth for the whole night. Crazy times!!!
I met the family friend in his wine shop near World Trade Center and spent good couple of hours chatting about times when he knew me as a mischievous kid. He even remembered that once upon a time I wanted to join air force!!! Wow-wow-wow!!! You still remember that? After a heavy lunch with him, I decided to stroll around the World Trade Center area and saw a new mural built to commemorate the valiant firefighters of 9/11. See the pics here:
Then I decided to go to the “Brooklyn Bridge”, the one I associate with a very fond memory. But scorching sun made me take a detour via Starbucks for a nice frappuccino. And also, I always had a fantasy of sitting in coffee shop and getting engrossed in something thoughtful and creative on my laptop. I decided to start writing this blog post then. :)
Then I took for a nearby fountain and there on a park bench I caught 40 winks in an upright posture. I seriously deserve the “can-sleep-anywhere-anytime” award! Let’s ask Mayawati if she can start these awards subsequent to her statues unveiling. What followed next was simply awesome. I thought of surprising my gal with flowers, which I did. But somehow she had thought of surprising me too by gifting me my unfulfilled childhood fantasy of a remote control car!!!! I have a Hummer now!!!
I longed to get back to the hotel room so that I can play with my Hummer! You have to be in my shoes to know how I felt to get the first ever remote control car of my life. Yet, another memory attached to the Big Apple!
Anyways, I am heading off now…time to Hummmm….errrrr around!
